On Tuesday 5 March, the Energy Security and Net Zero (ESNZ) Committee reported it has opened an inquiry into how the structure of the energy sector could be reformed to encourage greater decarbonisation, keep prices affordable for customers, and maintain a secure and reliable supply.
On Tuesday 28 November, the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) published a new report, The financial sector and the UK’s net zero transition.
On Thursday 26 October, the Energy Bill received Royal Assent and is now the Energy Act 2023. In a release on the same day, the government said that the Energy Act will transform the UK’s energy system by strengthening energy security, supporting the delivery of net zero and ensuring household bills are affordable in the long-term.
On Thursday 30 March, Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps set out plans to strengthen GB’s long-term energy security and independence through the publication of Powering Up Britain.
