Government publishes consultation on amendments to future CfD rounds

The UK Government published a consultation on Thursday 11 January seeking views on potential changes to Allocation Round 7 (AR7) and future allocation rounds of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme. For AR7, the government is seeking views on a number of proposals, including enabling onshore wind repowering projects to apply for the CfD scheme in limited circumstances, expanding the phased CfD policy to floating offshore wind projects, streamlining the appeals process for annual auction rounds, and introducing changes to metering to better enable CfD generators to co-locate with other assets. The government then goes on to outline possible changes to future allocation rounds beyond AR7, asking for views on how the CfD could support innovation in floating offshore wind foundation technology, how the CfD could support the delivery of improved coordination of offshore transmission infrastructure, and if CfD indexation should be updated to better reflect inflation risks. Responses are requested by 7 March 2024.
