On Monday 6 March, the Energy Networks Association published a joint letter from a coalition of charities, environmental and anti-poverty groups, as well as trade associations representing the breadth of the UK energy industry. The letter called on the government to empower Ofgem with a net zero mandate, warning that progress towards meeting the UK’s net zero goals could stall otherwise. The letter identified how Ofgem can remove barriers to investment in the low-cost, low-carbon energy system, and urged the government to publish the Strategic Policy Statement to Ofgem to enable the regulator to incorporate net zero into its decision making.
