Government establishes Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

Parliament Regulation

On Tuesday 7 February, the government announced it will establish a number of new departments, with some designed to replace aspects of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). To cover BEIS’ energy remit, the government has announced a new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, which will be responsible for securing the UK’s long-term energy supply and reducing energy bills.

As part of the accompanying cabinet reshuffle, Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP was appointed as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Rt Hon Graham Stuart MP as a Minister of State in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and Andrew Bowie MP as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
