On Tuesday 17 January, the government announced that its review of economic regulation, originally detailed in January 2022, is underway. Under the review, the government will examine the economic regulation of the energy and water sectors in areas including regulators’ duties, how regulators can enhance competition and innovation, and how respective regulatory appeals processes work.
The review will also consider how to encourage greater investment and how to improve consumer experience. As part of the announcement, it is stated the government will hold an open consultation on the proposals in spring 2023 to seek views.
