National Grid ESO publishes annual Operability Strategy Report

Electricity Pylon

On Friday 6 January, National Grid ESO published its annual Operability Strategy Report for 2023, explaining the challenges in operating a rapidly changing electricity system to enable a zero-carbon electricity system in 2035. The report details new systems, products and services which the ESO will employ to decarbonise the UK’s electricity system and operate a zero-carbon network in 2025.

It noted that its stability pathfinders and voltage pathfinders reduce reliance on fossil fuelled generation for critical transmission system services. It is also delivering frequency services fit for operating a zero-carbon network where system frequency will be more variable.
