BEIS responds to request to identify new Capacity Market technologies

On Wednesday 30 November, BEIS published its response to its September consultation seeking to identify new generating technologies for the future Capacity Market, including updates on the progress of vehicle-to-X (V2X) technology and its potential to contribute to security of supply.

Seven responses were received and while several highlighted that the number of V2X projects had increased globally over the past year, particularly those operating commercially, it was also noted that there have been barriers to further developing the technology into a viable commercial model. In addition, two respondents encouraged the introduction of a separate Generating Technology Class for electric vehicles, rather than relying on those for storage or demand side response, and one respondent proposed including Multi-Purpose Interconnectors within the Capacity Market.
