FSO to develop new Centralised Strategic Network Plan

On Thursday 17 November, Ofgem published its decision to require the Future System Operator (FSO) to deliver a new electricity transmission network planning output: a Centralised Strategic Network Plan (CSNP). This forms part of Ofgem’s response to the Net Zero Strategy, which involves the decarbonisation of the energy system, which more specifically can incorporate many aspects of the transmission system.

The decision document sets out the scope of the CSNP, and outlines that it should include all load-related transmission network planning, such as all planning related to new demand and generation impacting the electricity transmission network. It should also include the planning of the onshore and offshore network to cope with the additional demand and generation and planning where interconnection should be sited on the system.
