On Thursday 10 November, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) announced that it has published two new insight reports in which the aspects of smart local energy systems are examined. The first report released, titled Smart local energy systems: finance and investment looks at the potential returns and finance for such systems with Coventry’s Regional Energy Systems Operator estimating that an integrated local energy system could be worth £721mn to the city. The second report, titled Smart local energy systems: policy and regulation, suggests that in the long run, localised approaches could support national policy aims by limiting costs for customers and boosting energy security.
